Welcome to the Elder, Griffin, Greenwood, Starkweather, Thiele, James family website
28 September 2008 - 8:07:18pm Hello again, This is Amelia James. I have updated a few things and added some wonderful photos from Jan Stamm's personal collection. My Uncle Earl made some great copies for me and I have added the following jpgs; Greenwood, Jean and Pearl (M44) Greenwood, Mary and Jean (M48) Greenwood, Mary Clarissa 1 (M45) Greenwood, Mary Clarissa 2 (M46) Greenwood, Mary Clarissa 3 (M47) Griffin, Homer Virgil (M49) Griffin, Ida Louise (M50) Starkweather, Greenwood family (M51) Starkweather, Nelson J and baby (M53) Starkweather, Nelson V and Nelson J (M52) Thanks to Jan Stamm and Uncle Earl for those pictures. Also, I have updated the document S106 *Greenwood Family of Norwich, England in America pt.2 Thanks again to Uncle Earl for pointing out the great letter on p.183-184 about our Greenwoods and Elizabeth Ventiman updated *Greenwood-Mary Clara obituary "Sitl hard to read" to [Sipp] changed Jennie Lois Greenwood to Jean Lois Greenwood and added her death date changed her first husband's name from Boyat to Boynton added note to her re: Jennie to Jean added notes to both marriages added record for Pearl Grace Willing added person William Alexander Faughner and marriage to Pearl updated *Illinois Statewide Death Index 1916-1950 added doc S416 *Greenwood-Jean obituary and linked added doc S417 *Willing-Pearl obituary and linked added doc S418 *Faughner-William_obituary and linked finished cleaning up Mary Clarissa Greenwood and her many husbands *Mary Clarissa Greenwood (I1298) added note to records re: Editha (Kellogg?) added following note to everyone "downstream" from her note: because it is not proven that Lt. Joseph Kellogg is the father of Editha who married Ebenezer Moody, everything "downstream" from her is suspect. (note the parentheses and question marks) Please see the document "*Kellogg, Editha_Moody_argument" for the reason why I am including the Kelloggs in this tree. It seems very likely, until proven otherwise, that Editha's maiden name was Kellogg and that her father was probably Lt. Joseph Kellogg. added link for Theophilus Chamberlain and others to Gertrude Tratt's article *Chamberlain, Theophilus_Tratt article (S29) added doc S419 *Great Migration - Lord_Thomas, and linked to some of the people and events, (i.e. changed date of birth for William Lord, date was a baptism date) I will be adding more of these Great Migration excerpts in the future. These can be found at http://www.greatmigration.org/. I access these through my membership with the New England Historic and Genelaogical Society at http://www.newenglandancestors.org/ Also, Glenn Wheeler kindly sent me excerpts of The Baxter Lineage by Luther Travis. I am still processing this and some other new information I found on the Baxters and have started to add it to the database. Thank you to Glenn Wheeler for that. below are some of the changes I started to make: changed Marcus Baxter to Marcus Baxter (2) changed Jermima ? to *Jemima Baxter (changed her daughter Jemima Baxter to *Jemima Baxter (2)) cleaned up and linked all sources created following new people; *Marcus Baxter (completed links, sources and notes, just need to add parents) * ? Giraud (completed) *Thomas Baxter (3) completed *Abigail ? (2) ) completed *Thomas Baxter (4) completed *Deborah Hunt completed *John Hunt completed *Grace Fowler completed *Thomas Baxter (5) completed created new source documents: S420 *Baxter Lineage Travis, Luther S421 *Putnam County New York Cemeteries Eardeley, William A. S422 *Baxter Family pt.1 Baxter, Frances S423 *Baxter Family pt.2 oh, also I added a source document for a locket that I found in my mom's things. S424 *Willing locket, Willing locket (M55) and Willing locket photos (M56) Thanks again to the Beeses for helping me identify Jennie Greenwood's photo in the locket. I'm probably forgetting a few things, but this is the bulk of what has been changed. There are still plenty of things to clean up. Please let me know if you come across anything totally egregious. thanks and enjoy! Amelia

28 September 2008 - 6:07:02pm This information might be well known by others, but I wanted to acknowledge it here. I have added the following to *Reed-History of the Reed Family in Europe and America by Jacob Whittemore Reed (S258) (please notice the last line in the Bibliographic note below. It comments on the reliability of this source) PLEASE NOTE: posted 9-28-08 per The Great Migration Study Project, which I trust and respect, in their recent posting of a sketch for a William Read (not ours) of Weymouth; two things of note, 1) COMMENTS: There were at least two William Reads who resided at Weymouth in its earliest years, the subject of the current sketch and another of the same name who arrived in town around 1650 with wife Avis. We have built the present sketch on the following framework: as a passenger to New England on the same vessel with Rev. Joseph Hull, we would expect William Read, tailor, to have settled first in Weymouth; at the baptism of John Read in Boston in 1646, his father was said to be of Weymouth; Susan, the known first wife of William Read of Weymouth and Boston, died in Boston in 1653 and within a few months a William Read had married Ruth Crook in Boston; and soon after this marriage William Read of Boston, tailor, and wife Ruth were involved in some land transactions. and 2) important to this source; BIBLIOGRAPHIC NOTE: The prior literature on this William Read and the other William Reads of Weymouth and Boston contains so much confusion and error that no attempt will be made here to address and correct all problems. By far the best treatment of both William Reads of Weymouth was published in 1945 by Donald Lines Jacobus [Granberry 297-303]. Less successful but still useful is the work on these families by George Waldo Chamberlain [Weymouth Hist 4:565-66, 568-69]. Both Savage and Pope muddled the records for these men [Savage 3:519-20; Pope 380-81]. Jacob Whittemore Reed’s History of the Reed Family in Europe and America (Boston 1861) is worthless.

27 September 2008 - 6:19:00pm Hello, this is the latest update of my Elder, Griffin, Greenwood, Starkweather, Thiele, James family gedcom file. Mostly I have been working on my maternal Griffins. (I have Griffins on both sides of my family) I have been digging up information on the brothers of Homer Virgil Griffin as suggested in the probate records of his father Daniel Griffin. Researching them in Chicago, the Illinois court records, their family census records and where and how they died has been pretty interesting. Having more information about who was what age when has allowed me to better analyze early census records. I think I can fairly say that our Daniel Griffin was the one living in Broome, Schoharie County, Pennsylvania in 1830. Before I didn't have enough information about his children to be able to say that. Now I think I do. (see document *GRIFFIN_mat. search for Daniel Griffin in 1830 NY census) some of the changes as of May 26 2008: (not all changes have been noted below, but it reflects the major ones.) created new documents *GRIFFIN_mat. search for Daniel Griffin in 1830 NY census *GRIFFIN_others 1850 New York, Genesee, Alexander *GRIFFIN_mat.
