ref. no. 2650 [me, ordinarily I would go with the Great Migration papers as best evidence, but in this case I question that they are showing John Thorndike as originating from Great Carlton, Lincolnshire and being baptized there. The text "A Thorndike Family History, Descendants of John and Elizabeth (Stratton) Thorndike" (edited by Scott C. Steward and John Bradley Arthaud, Newbury Street Press, Boston, Massachusetts, 2000) makes, in my mind, a very good argument for John Thorndike being descended from the Francis Thorndike and Nicholas Thorndike of Aby with Greenfield, Lincolnshire, England. (see p.7 of this text, particularly note #79) Granted Great Carlton is only a few miles away from Aby, as I understand it, but it matters for the lineage.] *Thorndike, John Great Migration ORIGIN: Great Carlton, Lincolnshire MIGRATION: 1632 BIRTH: Baptized Great Carlton, Lincolnshire, 23 February 1611, son of Francis and Alice (Coleman) Thorndike. *Thorndike Family History pt.1 p.7. We are ign. who was his w. but think her name was Elizabeth and kn. that he had six ds. Sarah, Elizabeth Ann, Mary, Alice, and Martha, only s. Paul.
